Our recruitment process

At CeMM we truly value our employees, and to help us find the best people with right mix of skills, experience, personality and future potential, we invest a lot of time and effort into our selection process.

Our recruitment process is broadly based on CV assessment to review academic achievements and past experience, structured interviews, presentations and practical tests.

At CeMM we are committed to carrying out a fair and transparent recruitment process for every open position. There may be minor variations depending on the role, but in general our selection process has the following structure:

Application

Your application must be submitted through our online recruitment interface. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications via email. For each advertised position, the required application documents are described in the job advertisement. In general, these include a motivation letter, CV and the names and contact details of at least two referees.

After you have submitted your application, you will receive an automatic email confirming that your application has been received.

Your application must be submitted before the deadline stated in the job advertisement for us to review your application.

Application screening

Following the application deadline, your application will be reviewed by the selection committee. At a minimum, the committee will include the group leader who is hiring for this position and an HR representative. For more senior positions, the selection committee is usually larger and can also include external stakeholders.

Online or telephone interviews

If your application is long listed, you will be invited to participate in an online interview (via Zoom or Microsoft Teams) or a telephone interview, usually with the hiring group leader.

Visit to CeMM

Following the online or phone interviews, if your application is shortlisted you will be invited to Vienna to visit CeMM. Our HR team will make the necessary travel and hotel arrangements on your behalf (and will also organize travel visas if required). You will receive the meeting schedule for the visit well in advance. During this visit to CeMM you will have the opportunity to introduce yourself and your research through a presentation, followed by a series of one on one interviews with the selection committee members. At least one of these meetings will be with an HR representative with whom you can talk about CeMM’s work-life balance policy, the benefits associated with working at CeMM, and any other HR-related topics which you may want to discuss. There will also be the opportunity to meet with other members of the research group over lunch or coffee in the CeMM cafeteria.

Offer

After your CeMM visit you will receive feedback within a few days from the HR department. At this stage, if you have been successful you will be made an offer. If you have been unsuccessful, you will be notified via email.

Our recruitment guidelines

The CeMM recruitment guidelines are based on the LIBRA guidelines. The LIBRA recruitment guidelines were created by CeMM together with 12 top European research institutes of the EU-Life alliance to support them in hiring the most suitable candidate, and increasing workplace diversity, which provides the basis for creativity and ultimately success.

Our communication policy

We acknowledge every application immediately with an automatic e-mail response. Communication between the longlisted and shortlisted candidates and the HR Department will be primarily by e-mail. We discourage direct communication between the hiring group leader and candidates except during the organized Microsoft Teams or phone call discussions and the official meeting at CeMM. We do this to maintain a fair and transparent recruitment process. All unsuccessful applicants will be advised via e-mail, with feedback for all candidates who visited CeMM and had face to face meetings with us.
